Grampian Maternity Charter launched by SG Minister in Elgin

Tomorrow, Scottish Government Minister for Public & Women's Health, Jenni Minto will be in attendance as NHS Grampian launches its Maternity Services Charter. The charter explains what users should expect from NHS Grampian’s maternity services as well as their rights.

The Charter draws from the National Charter of Patient Rights and Responsibilities and has been developed by NHS Grampian in collaboration with members of the Grampian Maternity Voices Partnership and LATNEM (Let’s All Talk North East Mums), community groups focussed on developing local maternity care and supporting birthing mothers and families.

Geraldine Fraser, NHS Grampian’s executive lead for family services said: “What this charter means is that people using our maternity services across Grampian have the right to: services appropriate to their needs; to be involved in decisions about their care; to expect confidentiality; to be treated with dignity and respect; to have safe, effective and compassionate care. Our aim is to support the whole family including partners / birthing partners, babies, parents, carers and siblings.”

Ms Minto said: “I’m delighted to be here in Moray today as this charter, co-produced by service users - for service users, is launched. The charter is focused on the current and future needs of babies and their families and places person-centred, relationship-based care at the very heart of maternity and neonatal services. This is especially relevant here in Moray, as the Board with the community work hard to move forward with their plan to reinstate a consultant led service here at Dr Gray’s.”
