Grampian NMAHP Bank

The NHS Grampian Nurse Bank Service provide registered and non-registered nursing and midwifery staff across Grampian to:

  • hospital wards
  • outpatient clinics
  • health centres
  • community settings

Bank workers are engaged with NHS Grampian who work on a flexible and as and when basis to cover for planned and unplanned shortfalls in the nurse staffing establishment, such as short and medium term absence and peak in activity.

What we do

We provide a booking, recruitment and management service for NMAHP bank workers.  The service provides a critical link between NHS bank workers and front line health care professionals commissioning staffing requests for their services to source bank shifts for registered and non-registered nursing and non regististered supplimentary staffing which supports quality person-centred care.

What is bank work?

Bank work is available on an as and when required basis for NMAHP workers across NHS Grampian.  You book the hours that you can work, taking into account factors such as child care, transport, studies and other work committments etc.  The Employee Online System will display available shifts based on your availablility, work area preferences and skills.  Availability of work is not guaranteed, nor are you obliged to accept any work offered.  It is important to consider that bank work does not provide identical Terms and Conditions to an employee contract.

How do I apply to join the bank?

We advertise our positions on the NHS Grampian and NHS Scotland recruitment websites.  All external applicaitons are recieved online.  If you already hold a post within NHS Grampian (whether registered or non-registered or non clincial), you may qualify to join the bank in a more streamlined manner.

Why do I need to join the bank?

All supplimentary nursing, midfifery and AHP staffing in NHS Grampian is coordinated through the NMAHP Bank.

Who can join the bank?

Anyone can apply.  However, applicants mus be able to evidence eligibility to work in the UK, and comply with all NHS Grampian's recruitment checks.

Can I join the bank if I have another post in NHS Grampian?

Yes, many staff undertake additional work through NHS Grampian.  However, your bank post will remain separate from any other one which you hold.  You must be up to date with all Statutory and Mandatory training and not currently being managed under any NHS Scotland Workforce policy.

Do I need additional Occupational Health Service (OHS) clearance if I already have a post within NHS Grampian?

Yes, this may be required.

I worked through the bank a while ago.  Am I still registered to work?

The Bank Office reviews bank memberships on a regular basis, and if it is a long time since you worked any bank shifts you will be shown as inactive.  Please contact the team who will be able to advise you.

How long does the application process take?

This will depend on obtaining full and correct information from you.  If you are an internal candidate, we aim to contact you within 2 days of getting a fully completed application if there are no queries/concerns.  For external candidates, we aim to turn around applications within 8 - 12 weeks from obtaining a fully completed application pack.

When can I start work through the bank?

We will write to tell you when your application is complete and that you can accept work.
