Background to Non-Medical Prescribing and implementation in Grampian

NHS Grampian has had a non-medical prescribing (NMP) lead since 2006.  The NMP Lead attends the Scottish NMP Leads meeting and chairs the multi-professional NMP Group responsible for the Policy development and revisions and facilitating NMP specific Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

If you have any queries about non-medical prescribing, please check out the quick guide for prescriber new to Grampian, the full Policy, or contact the NMP Lead via email: gram.acateam@nhs.scot.

Having completed your NMP qualification it can often be quite daunting setting out as a non-medical prescriber. Even when you have support in your new role from experienced prescribing colleagues you can feel quite isolated using your new skills and knowledge.

Please use the Resources and Policy pages to support your prescribing practise in NHS Grampian, particularly the Royal Pharmaceutical Society “Competency Framework for all Prescribers” and the Turas Professional Portfolio (or similar) to evidence your professional development and CPD.
This will ensure that you build safely and effectively on the knowledge and skills you gained while studying, using evidenced resources as you fulfil your professional responsibility as a NMP and healthcare professional. Thus, not only developing your knowledge and confidence but also enhancing the care and service you provide to patients.
