Midwifery

NHS Grampian welcomes newly qualified and experienced staff, including those who wish to Return to Practice, who are motivated and enthusiastic about delivering high quality person centred care across the Maternity Services in line with our organisational values

Birth in Grampian – Birth in Grampian (scot.nhs.uk)

NHS Grampian has a strong commitment to provide support for all midwives, utilising a structured development programme and preceptorship. The aim of this programme is to provide a broad base of experience with post registration development opportunities across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. This structured progression route provides the opportunity to consolidate learning, and develop knowledge, skills and competence in a supportive environment. This programme has been developed to prepare midwives for new ways of working as we transition to the Baird Family Hospital and the development of Continuity of Carer teams.

Through this development programme you will be supported by a preceptor/Flying Start facilitator, as well as your team leaders, Practice Education team and midwifery managers. We offer new recruits a minimum two weeks supernumerary status as you orientate to the team, as well as a welcome meeting with Practice Education to direct you through the mandatory, statutory and additional training aligned with Maternity Services. In addition, all new graduate midwives will be supported to attend professional development days that will include ‘Connect 5’, which is NHS Grampian’s restorative clinical supervision sessions, specifically for new registrants.

NHS Grampian utilise a Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Education Passport, hosted on Turas Learn to map progress, assist with identifying training requirements and highlight when updates are due. Additionally, Maternity Services have an education and training plan, where midwives will be supported to undertake exciting secondments, project roles, and priority training. Educational opportunities directed towards service improvement will also allow staff to develop a personal progression plan.
